When a skin biopsy is performed, the tissue is sent to a dermatopathologist—a physician trained in both dermatology and pathology—who examines the sample under a microscope to make or confirm a diagnosis. While most biopsy samples from our providers are evaluated in-house through our dermatopathology services, certain specimens require specialized testing. In these cases, we partner with trusted dermatopathology laboratories for advanced studies such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, genetic analysis, and other specialized diagnostics to ensure the most accurate and comprehensive results.
