Dermatopathology Services

Dermatopathology is the specialized study of skin diseases at the microscopic level. When a skin biopsy is performed, the tissue is sent to a dermatopathologist—a physician trained in both dermatology and pathology—who examines the sample under a microscope to make or confirm a diagnosis. This detailed analysis helps identify conditions ranging from rashes and inflammatory disorders to benign and malignant/cancerous skin growths. By combining expert clinical evaluation with precise microscopic diagnosis, dermatopathology ensures patients receive the most accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plan for their skin condition.

Dr. Darabi is triple board-certified in dermatopathology, dermatology, and Mohs skin cancer surgery, giving him exceptional expertise in the microscopic analysis of skin diseases. This unique combination of skills allows him to accurately connect the clinical appearance of a skin condition with detailed microscopic findings from skin biopsies, ensuring the most precise diagnosis and optimal treatment plan for each patient.

While most biopsy samples from our providers are evaluated in-house through our dermatopathology services, certain specimens require specialized testing. In these cases, we partner with trusted dermatopathology laboratories for advanced studies such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, genetic analysis, and other specialized diagnostics to ensure the most accurate and comprehensive results.
